Building An Outdoor Fire Pit

An outdoor fire pit can be a lot of fun, especially during chilly nights. Many people have campfires during camping and outdoor events. These camp fires are often where people bond and share life stories or just any thoughts that may come to mind.

How To Build An Outdoor Fire Pit
 
The first step is to carefully choose the location of your proposed outdoor fire pit. The location must be away from any flammable structure or any other dried woodpile or dried leaves. This is a precaution against any accidental fires.
 
When you have already chosen an ideal spot for your outdoor fire pit, make a rough circle of around a foot and a half circumference where you should dig your pit. When you have drawn a rough circle, dig around one foot into the ground that you have chosen. Clear the foot and a half circular pit from any other debris and loose soil. Make sure that the sides of this initial pit are relatively straight and level. You can make a bigger outdoor fire pit if you wish.
 
Lay a bed of gravel (around two inches) circular pit. Mix a small amount of mortar with water and use your trowel to spread this mixture in the base of the pit, about two inches of mortar. Draw a rough circle on the drying mortar as a guide for the next day and then let it dry for 24 hours.
 
On this rough circle that you initially drew, lay another one-inch thick layer of mortar and place several bricks on top of this layer. Do it continuously until you reach ground level. Let the mortar dry before filling the gaps between the brick and earth with dirt. This can now be you open outdoor fire pit where you can build an open fire. If you wish to add a circle of bricks around the perimeter of the mortar and bricks, then do so. This will help stop any rolling logs or embers and help establish a safe boundary from your outdoor fire pit.

You can also continue on to make a sort of outdoor fire pit grill where you can cook up delicious steaks and ribs.  All you have to do is to continue on putting up the mortar and bricks until a satisfactory height is reached. At the very top of the mortar and bricks, leave a gap where you can put coal so as to be able to barbecue anything by putting a grill on top of the bricks.
